MSLog - Version 7 Installation Updates

Overview

Mount Sopris Instruments has released the MSLog data acquisition software version 7.48  for the MGX II logger. It operates on  Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP. This version was developed to provide support for a number of  digital, down hole logging probes on Windows XP SP2.

Note: Tools which record large amounts of data such as the 2SAA-1000, 2SAA-100-F, 2SNA-1000-S, ABI40, FAC40 require  Windows 2000 or Windows XP for proper detection of the data. Problems communicating with these tools may result while operating MSLog with Windows 9x.

Distributions are also changed occasionally to add functionality and provide support for different probes e.g. new  tool driver files, updated user manuals and help files.

MSLog v 7.48 is available for download to all customers with a valid license. There is a full and partial download, both of which contain all executables and tool driver files.

Wellcad is currently shipping at version 4.0.  Contact Mount Sopris for information on upgrading previous versions to Wellcad v 4.0.

Additional links are provided to download the MSLog users manual and an update for Wellcad version 2.5. Contact Mount Sopris for information on upgrading previous versions to Wellcad v 4.0.

Distribution Notes: New 3-02-2006

This distribution was updated March 2, 2006. It  contains new browsers for the ABI40 and OBI40  Televiewers, as well as changes for the 2SNA-1000S spectral gamma tool which are needed to operate properly with Windows XP Service Pack 2. We anticipate that this will be the last version of MSLog as our production moves to the Matrix Logger.

Matrix software is not available on this site contact the factory for support.

The installation copies calibration and track setting information and maintains them in the current folder. It also removes outdated links and files that remain if the previous installation is not removed first.

Contact Mount Sopris Instruments for more information.

What tools are covered by MSLog version 7.48 ?

MSLog version 7.48 will operate, in addition to all standard tools previously supported:

2IDA-1000 (modified Idronaut, Ocean 7), water quality probes.

2BSA-1000 (modified Bartington 2BSS-02A-1000), Borehole, Magnetic Susceptibility probe.

FWS40 acoustic velocity probe.

2SNA-1000-S Spectral Gamma tool.

2SAA-1000, 2SAA-1000-f and 2SAF-1000 Full-waveform Sonic Tools.

ABI40 Acoustic Borehole Televiewer.

OBI40 Optical Borehole Televiewer.

What does my MGX II need to be compatible with this software?

The firmware, that is the programs in the microprocessors, in the MGX II must be the correct version to operate with MSLog. The firmware version is affected by the crystal frequency of the Master processor. The crystal is a half-inch long, narrow metal can with numbers, indicating its operating frequency, written on top. The crystal is next to U1 on the main board of the MGX II.  Just to the left of the crystal is the label X1.

For systems with a master crystal frequency of 22.1184 MHz:

Master, part number: 8113-0099 or newer (main board U1).

Slave, part number 8108-0104 or newer (main board U2).

Depth slave, part number: 8109-0081 or newer (depth board U9).

This frequency is required for auxiliary modem (s) to operate the 2SAA-1000 Full Waveform sonic, FAC40 acoustic Televiewer or OBI40 optical Televiewer, DX line of combination probes.

22.1184 MHZ is the standard frequency for all new MGX II model 5MCA-1000 top mount style electronics consoles. However some older units may have a 24 MHZ crystal in them.

For systems with a master crystal frequency of 24 MHZ:

Master, part number: 8113-0080 or newer (main board U1).

Slave, part number 8108-0104 or newer (main board U2).

Depth slave, part number: 8109-0081 or newer (depth board U9).

This frequency, 25Mhz, is typical in systems running Logshell v2.20 or earlier and those that have been field upgraded to Logshell v2.21 or later. Most MGX II model 4MGB-1000 loggers, with integrated winch and electronics (side by side), operate at this frequency. The model and serial number is posted on the side of the electronics. It is no guarantee of the crystal frequency, however, and visual inspection of the label crystal in the electronics is the only way to be positive.

MSLog installer Download

These  MSLog installations contain complete help and all the executables and tool driver (.tol) files needed to install and operate MSLog version 7.48.

There are two versions available for download by clicking the links at the end of these instructions.  The partial install  does not contain the Adobe Acrobat Reader or the tool user documentation, in PDF format, that comes with the full install.  The full install is a copy of the Factory shipped, CD installation.

You can use either of these new installations if you currently have installed any of the following MSLog versions:

NOTE: If you have an existing installation of MSLog version 7.43 or 7.48 distributed on a CD, and you download the partial installation, do not uninstall it before copying or otherwise backing up the .pdf files in \MSLog\Doc\Pdf folder. You can also temporarily rename the \Pdf folder then, after you uninstall and install MSLog, copy the .pdf documents from that folder to the newly created one.
